Monday, May 09, 2005

Reader Lau sent in photos of his hack involving stripping down the shuffle to it's guts and sticking them into a shuffle waterproof case. The result is simple and effective.

This is a great idea ... how did you do it??

Step one: take the shuffle apart (and don't break it)
Step two: insert guts into an iPod water proof case
Step three: profit!

is that case really waterproof or is it just water resistant? cuz i can't find a single waterproof shuffle case anywhere.

I did this, in theory it is a cool idea but the shuffle does not fit snug inside the case. And even if it did, the controlls are too far away for the case controller to reach it.

If you really want a water proof shuffle:
http://www.otterbox.com/products/otterbox_for_ipod/shuffle/index.htm
"Waterproof, dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof, and drop-proof"
And the best thing is that its cheaper than the Apple one :)

How did you get the control pad to stay functionally attatched to the board without the original white casing?

shuffle and the control pad will fit very snug, and will not move at all. You just add a small piece of double sided white strip foam at the side and one between the control pad.

BTW, my name is LAU not LUA - I'm the one that build this and send in the photo... and still using it today 4/6/06.
